How to Download and Install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition is a powerful and feature-rich edition of SQL Server that is ideal for developing, testing and demonstrating applications. It supports all the features of SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition, such as high availability, scalability, security and business intelligence. However, it is not licensed for production use and can only be used by one user at a time.
If you want to download and install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition, you can follow these steps:
Go to the official Microsoft download center and search for \"SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Standard (x64)\"[^1^]. This download comes as a pre-configured VHD (virtual hard disk) that contains both Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition.
Select the language of your choice and click on the \"Download\" button. You will see a list of files that you need to download. There are seven parts of the VHD file (TD03WS08SFR2SP1x64_SQL08.part01.exe to TD03WS08SFR2SP1x64_SQL08.part07.rar) and one file for the SQL Server Management Studio (SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe). The total size of the download is about 5.4 GB.
Download all the files to a folder on your computer. You can use a download manager to speed up the process and resume interrupted downloads.
After downloading all the files, run the first part of the VHD file (TD03WS08SFR2SP1x64_SQL08.part01.exe) and extract it to a folder. The other parts will be extracted automatically.
You will get a file named TD03WS08SFR2SP1x64_SQL08.vhd in the folder. This is the virtual hard disk that contains Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition.
To use the VHD file, you need a virtualization software such as Hyper-V, VirtualBox or VMware. You can create a new virtual machine and attach the VHD file as the primary hard disk. You can also configure other settings such as memory, network and display according to your preferences.
Start the virtual machine and log in with the username \"Administrator\" and password \"P@ssw0rd\". You will see the Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 desktop with SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition installed.
To activate SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition, you need a product key. You can get a product key from MSDN or Visual Studio subscriptions[^3^]. Alternatively, you can use a trial product key that is valid for 180 days. You can find a trial product key on this page.
To enter the product key, open SQL Server Management Studio from the Start menu or run SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe from the folder where you downloaded it. Connect to the local server with Windows authentication and right-click on the server name in the Object Explorer. Select \"Properties\" and then \"Product\". Enter the product key in the \"Product Key\" box and click \"OK\". Restart the SQL Server service for the changes to take effect.
You have successfully installed Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition on your virtual machine. You can now use it for developing, testing and demonstrating your applications.
Note: This download is only for evaluation purposes and cannot be used for production or commercial purposes. You can only use it by one user at a time. If you need a full-featured edition of SQL Server that can be used for production or commercial purposes, you can upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition or SQL Server 2016 Enterprise Edition. aa16f39245
